Chapter 7: Employment Under a Contract or Grant
7.1 Purpose
Funding agencies award contracts and grants to The University of Texas at El Paso (University) on behalf of specific programs and/or research conducted by principal investigators (PI). These awards are made to the University and not to the individual. This policy details the terms of employment for all positions funded by a contract or grant. Positions that fall under this policy have a specified start date and end date and may not continue beyond the duration of the funding.
7.2 Policy Statement
All appointments to positions funded by contracts or grants are subject to the availability of designated funding. Such funding may end upon the expiration of the contract or grant, early termination by the University or the funding agency, or depletion of the allocated funds—whichever occurs first. If continued funding cannot be secured through reallocation, the appointment percentage may be reduced, or the position may be terminated to reflect available resources.
All appointments, regardless of funding source, must comply with 2 CFR § 200.430 - Compensation—personal services and University policies and procedures. Employment of individuals without proper authorization and documentation is strictly prohibited.
7.3 Other Applicable Policies
Other Handbook policies regarding University employment, including Section V: Human Resources, are also applicable.
