M.S. in Mechanical Engineering
The Department of Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering offers both thesis and non-thesis options for the Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering.

General degree requirements
Both thesis and non-thesis options are available. All students must take at least 18 semester hours of coursework within their major under the thesis option, or 24 semester hours under the non-thesis option. No more than six (6) semester hours of approved upper-level undergraduate coursework may be used to satisfy degree requirements. All coursework must be approved by the student's academic advisor and the Graduate School.

Admission requirements
Applicants are expected to have a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or a related field. Depending on the selected area of concentration, students may need to complete deficiency undergraduate coursework.
- Official transcript with four-year baccalaureate degree posted, from the degree-granting institution, and copies of transcripts for all other relevant upper-division and graduate work at accredited U.S. institutions or equivalent work and degrees at foreign institutions

TOEFL / English proficiency (international applicants) — Evidence of English-language competency is required if you did not attend high school in the United States and your most recent institution of learning was not located in an English-speaking country.
- Minimum score of 550 on the paper-based TOEFL (pBT). Some programs require 600 or better.
- Minimum score of 79 on the internet-based test (iBT), and minimum of 6.5 on IELTS.
- Minimum score of 53 on the Pearson PTE.
- Minimum score of 110 on the Duolingo test.
- Test scores are valid for 2 years.
- Official test scores must be submitted directly from the testing agency. The University's institutional test code is 6829.

Financial aid
A major source of financial aid is through Research Assistantships — competitive positions funded by research grants and contracts. A limited number of Teaching Assistantships is also available. Send your résumé to the AME Department to be considered for open opportunities. Additional financial support includes:
- Scholarships, training stipends, and fellowships
- Need-based assistance for Texas residents, U.S. citizens, and permanent residents
- Employment through the Cooperative Education Program
- On-campus and off-campus positions for some students
- Resident tuition for citizens of Mexico demonstrating financial need
