Recent Birds at Rio Bosque
Deliveries of irrigation water to the park ended 3 August. Water deliveries from the Roberto Bustamante Wastewater Treatment Plant continue, and both of our wells are in operation. The full length of the old river channel still has water, and a small amount is going to the wetland cells.
The park's continuing Yellow-crowned Night Heron was seen most recently 10 Aug.
The park's pair of White-tailed Kites has not been seen since 7 October 2025. The park's nesting Cooper's Hawks fledged at least one young. In June and early July, Mississippi Kites were consistent along the old river channel in the northern part of the park, but they have not been seen in almost a month. .
Burrowing Owls are currently using 3 sites in the northern portion of the park.
Northern Cardinals continue to be seen and heard along the old river channel within the park. A Painted Bunting is being seen along the Bosque Trail.
