President’s Community Engaged Scholarship Award – honors a faculty member who has employed the academic resources of the University to address important public problems and contribute to the public good, and who has disseminated the results of that work in scholarly venues. All individuals holding a full-time or part-time faculty appointment are eligible. The award is accompanied by an engraved plaque and a $1000 prize that can be used to support the engaged work of the faculty member.

Community engaged scholarship (CES) is the development, exchange and application of knowledge and expertise between university and community representatives to address social challenges. It is interdisciplinary and based on reciprocal, mutually beneficial and equitable partnerships.

CES characteristics include the:

• Integration of research, teaching and service
• Application to public and community issues
• Development of sustainable and equitable partnerships
• Effective engagement of community partners
• Dissemination of peer reviewed findings to stakeholders, clients, community leaders and decision-makers with practical application implications

Application packet (self-nominations are encouraged):

1. Two page summary of nominee’s community engaged scholarship
2. Nominee’s CV
3. Letter from a community partner highlighting the mutually beneficial partnership

Nominee summary description (two pages single spaced):
The two page summary should include a description of the nominee’s community engaged scholarship trajectory, highlighting the most relevant characteristics of community engaged scholarship. A strong summary should describe any impact the nominee’s community engaged scholarship has had on students, faculty, the community and/or the institution.
