Crossing Latinidades Humanities Research Initiative
Purpose:
The Crossing Latinidades Humanities Research Initiative at the University of Illinois Chicago seeks applicants for its Summer Institute in U.S. Latino/a/x/e Humanities Studies Methodologies and Theories. The Summer Institute is an intense in-person pre-doctoral training program which prepares participants to consider dissertation topics and to draft a dissertation proposal.
The 2026 Summer Institute will take place at the University of Illinois Chicago from June 12-21, 2026.
Eligibility:
- Must have completed their second or third year in humanities and humanistic social science PhD programs
- Must not be ABD by May 2026
- Must be planning to have completed their third or fourth year by May 2026
- Doctoral students working on Latin American dissertation topics are not eligible to apply
Outcome:
- Participants will commit to attending virtual Professionalization Workshops and Speaker Series events during the fall of 2026 and spring of 2027
- Participants will receive a $3,000 stipend to cover travel, meals not offered by the Institute, and other minor incidental expenses incurred while traveling. Housing is provided in shared apartments on the UIC campus as well as most meals.
