¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ College of Engineering Receives Special Recognition Due to Outstanding Levels of Research Productivity and Leadership

At the past annual Grant Recipients Reception held on Tuesday June 19, 2018, the College of Engineering was recognized for being awarded 42 percent of all awards at ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ for this past year.
The level of research productivity shown by the College of Engineering can be contributed to the tremendous faculty commitment and dedication to their research objectives along with their genuine desire to support our undergraduate and graduate students.
"I am personally blown away by their creativity, passion, resourcefulness and commitment," Theresa Maldonado, Ph.D., dean of the College of Engineering said.
Three out of the five departments with the highest research expenditures per faculty in the university belong to the College of Engineering. In first place with an average of $310,000 in research expenditures per faculty was mechanical engineering, computer science in third place with over $200,000 per faculty and civil engineering in fourth place with $161,000 per faculty.
A special recognition was made to four members of the college who had more than $1 million in research expenditures in year 2017. Ann Gates, Ph.D., professor and chair of computer science, Ahsan Choudhuri, Ph.D., professor of mechanical engineering, Ryan Wicker, Ph.D., professor of mechanical engineering and director of the W.M. Keck Center for 3D Innovation, and Darren Cone, director of the Advancement of Space Safety and Mission Assurance Research ( CASSMAR) center who received the award for the first time.
A special recognition was presented to ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ President Diana Natalicio for her remarkable leadership throughout these years and to the Office of Research & Sponsored Projects (ORSP) for their hard work and support provided to ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ faculty during the proposal preparation and submission processes.
